Wow a lot has happened in the last two weeks.  As I said in the last post, we met our new GI doctor and our new feeding therapist.  I thought we were meeting the GI doctor for Elise's G-tube maintenance, but I was wrong. The reason we were sent to this particular GI doctor is because he is the head of the aversion feeding clinic.  He was wonderful and gave us some ideas to try with Elise's feeds to help induce hunger better.  He thought we were filling her up with the tube feedings and not allowing her to experience hunger sensations enough to be able to satisfy them on her own.  Which in part we knew, but were afraid to cut her feedings and with the fear of having her lose weight or get dehydrated.  But, just in the week we changed her tube feedings, she really picked up on eating.  After the first week we met with the feeding "team."  Which consisted of the GI doctor, a dietitian, a feeding therapist, and a pediatric behavioral psychiatrist.  They were all really happy with her success in just one week, and as a group decided for us to be more aggressive with decreasing her tube feeds.  And, over this last week, she has really done well.  Before starting this, her tube feeds made up about 95% of her daily caloric intake, after the first week the tube feedings made up about 60%, and after this last week only about 15-20% of her daily calories, because she is eating the rest herself!  She is eating like crazy!  Coming up to me and asking to eat or drink, it's fantastic.  We have been out to eat as a family a couple times, and it has been so much fun.  We actually ordered from the kids menu Sunday!  So hopefully she will continue to learn that eating is enjoyable, and learn new foods to try.  As you can see by the pictures she tried corn on the cob the other night.  It really has been a great two weeks.  Other than her feeding, we have been to a pumpkin patch and rode on a hay ride.  Saw Sesame Street Live, which Elise thought was the best thing ever!  And took the dogs to a dog park.  We have also been trying to teach Elise how to pose for the camera.  Which she is trying to do in the picture where she is wearing a blue shirt out on our back patio.  We were drawing with sidewalk chalk and took off her pants cause she kept sitting on the drawings getting her pants dirty.  And we started taking her picture showing her how to pose.  It was too cute.  Jason has been working really hard at work, but is still enjoying it.  I hope you all enjoy the next two weeks.  Happy eating!!
